Few diseases are as devastating as lung cancer. Like many forms of cancer, though, if caught early, lung cancer can be effectively treated. Some statistics show five-year survival rates for certain types of lung cancers to be around 90 percent. Screening with a low dose CT scan and early detection are the keys to saving lives.

For these reasons, NeuroSkeletal Imaging Institute is proud to sponsor the American Lung Association’s 2021 Fight For Air Climb in Orlando, FL. A non-profit organization, the American Lung Association is working to defeat and educate people on lung cancer. If you are interested in helping or would like to know how an advanced imaging center like our’s can save lives, please keep reading below.

What Is A Low Dose CT Scan

A standard chest x-ray will show a dime-sized mass in the lungs with a plain image. A low-dose scan using CT produces 3-Dimensional images that can spot masses as small as a rice grain.

By discovering a mass sooner and smaller in size, the chances of cancer already metastasizing, spreading to other parts of the body, are reduced. This is the key to increased survival rates in patients. Catching the disease early is why scheduling an appointment with an advanced imaging center like the NeuroSkeletal Imaging Institute is so important.

Early Signs To Look For

Your chances of being diagnosed with lung cancer increase if you have smoked or been exposed to certain chemicals. However, anyone can develop lung cancer.

Symptoms of lung cancer may not appear until the disease has advanced. Individuals 55 to 74 years of age who meet specific criteria may be eligible for early screening. If you show signs of the following symptoms, please see your doctor for further evaluation.

  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Persistent cough
  • Chest pain
  • Shortness of breath
  • Developing a hoarse voice
